How to Store Fall Produce without Plastic

This article can  help you make your produce last longer and do your part to help the Earth. Your fall produce will last longer, and save you money, if you know the appropriate ways you should be storing them. Take a look at some great plastic-free storage tips from YumSugar:

  • Avocados: put these in paper bags and store at room temperature. If you need to soften them, put an apple into the bag.
  • Eggplant: you can leave these out in a cool room. Be sure not to wash them until you're ready to use them since eggplants don't like extra moisture around their leaves. To make them last longer, you can place them loosely in your crisper.
  • Herbs: keep these stored in a closed container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Pomegranates: these don't need to be refrigerated. Just keep them for up to a month on a cool counter.
  • Tomatoes: these don't actually need to be chilled either. Depending on their ripeness, they can stay on the counter for up to 2 weeks.
